Sci-Fi Month 2016 Banner

It’s here! It’s finally here! If you’re not already familiar with Sci-Fi Month, here’s the low down:

Sci-Fi Month is a month-long blog event created by Rinn over at Rinn Reads and co-hosted by Lisa at Over the Effing Rainbow. The event is dedicated to celebrating everything amazing about science fiction – from TV shows to movies, books to comics, and everything else in between, it’s intended to help people share the love for this genre. A genre which, to be perfectly frank, I have completely neglected for far too long.

That all changes now. Slap a robe on me and call me a Padawan, because this girl’s about to be schooled in the art of sci-fi!

The (Slightly Ambitious) TBR:

  1. We Stand on Guard by Brian K. Vaughan and Steven Skroce
  2. Fortune’s Pawn by Rachel Bach
  3. Arabella of Mars by David D. Levine
  4. Lagoon by Nnedi Okorafor
  5. Invisible Planets, ed. and trans. by Ken Liu
  6. Illuminae by Amie Kauffman and Jay Kristoff
  7. Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie
  8. The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers

Now, thankfully I’ve been planning this for a while so I’ve already read a handful of books on this TBR…but I can’t let myself get complacent. My sci-fi empire’s not going to run itself!

Sci-Fi Film Screenings:

  1. Alien
  2. Attack the Block
  3. Ex Machina
  4. Mad Max: Fury Road

Yes, it’s true. I’ve never seen Alien. The shame! *hides* BUT! The upside is that now I have the perfect excuse to binge watch some classic sci-fi films, one for each week of Sci-Fi Month. I may even do some live tweeting while watching — you’ve been warned!

If you’re like me and you want to branch out into sci-fi, or if you just want more people to discuss it with, you should join in! You can view the schedule here, follow the event on Twitter via the official @SciFiMonth Twitter account, or with the hashtag #RRSciFiMonth.

Where do you fall on the sci-fi spectrum: are you a Padawan like me, or a Jedi master like Rinn and Lisa? Will you be participating this year? Let me know in the comments!
